Relying strictly on the nourishing properties of the Fat alone I decided to forego any post shave product. Although I would safely say one is not necessarily needed  I always found Nivea balm well suited when used in conjunction with the Fat.

Dark, complex scent of cranberry, balsam fir, rose, sandalwood, fougére accord, patchouli, geranium, cardamom, bergamot and Mousse de Saxe coming together with no one note sticking further out than the other. Stronger scent strength and more lasting than Promises, another one of B&M’s seasonal releases which I also finally broke out this season.

I intentionally waited until the winter months to break out my Promises set. The notes consist of bergamot, orange, whiskey, peat, honey, peat and nutmeg. The initial whiff off the puck is reminiscent of black licorice or an old fashioned Christmas candy that your grandmother would gift rather than anything too sweet, artificial, dark or earthy typically associated with winter seasonal scents.

This is a highly concentrated brushless product but far superior than many others I’ve tried. Adequate/average slickness but really shining in the post feel without the tacky feeling that sometimes comes with creams. The scent notes are not discernible but does come off clean and light. Overall not a bad find at Burlington Coat Factory for just a few $$$.

Setup before I discovered this was a brushless product.

From my experience with the Reserve base, the more water the better, followed by a roughly sixty second load from the puck. Waves is probably also my favorite scent in the Reserve lineup-clean and aquatic.

The GC .84 has easily moved its way into my top five of DE’s and this brush has also worked its way into my favorites. The Gillette Platinum blades also get positive marks for longevity and retaining their smoothness upwards to five uses. 

After struggling to get any sort of decent lather from Geo. F. Trumper’s triple milled puck the past few days (keep in mind I have no issues with modern Williams or D.R. Harris) it was nice to return to a base that has been reliable and consistent for me.

This balm is definitely on par with some of the higher tier balms and reminiscent of one of my personal favorite balms in my den-Baume.be in terms of consistency and post feel. The soap was enjoyable and I hear amazing things about the new base (currently only available in the Seafarer scent) so I will be trying the sample of that I have soon.
